Athame

Athame/Ritual Knife

Purpose

A ritual knife used to direct energy, cast circles, and cut energetic ties. The athame is traditionally used for commanding and directing power, not for physical cutting.

Description

A double-edged blade, traditionally with a black handle. May be made of steel, iron, or other metals. Often 6-9 inches in length with symbolic inscriptions or sigils on the blade or handle.

Usage Notes

Consecrate by the four elements. Use to cast and close circles, direct energy in spellwork, and call quarters. Never use for physical cutting of herbs or objects - that is reserved for the boline. Store wrapped in silk or in a dedicated case.
